모노크롬카세트(Monochrome Cassette)- 비밀의 방 (Secret room)

모노크롬카세트는 ‘무채색이기에 무엇으로도 향할 수 있는 그들’ 이란 모토처럼 한가지 색채로 규정되기를 거부하는 듯 하다. 2015년 ‘사랑이더라’를 시작으로 ‘One Sweet Day’, ‘짝사랑’, ‘너무나 슬퍼’, 녹지마’, 그리고 최근의 신곡 ‘비와 우리들의 이야기’에 이르기까지 이들은 다양한 장르와 색깔 속에서 자신들의 확장성을 가늠해보는 듯 하다. 그런 의미에서 이번에 발표되는 2017년의 첫 신곡 ‘비밀의 방’은 모노크롬카세트의 컬러가 얼마나 다양한 색채를 지니고 있는지 다시 한 번 확인해 볼 수 있는 곡이다. 왈츠풍의 잔잔한 리듬 위에 소박한 사운드로 시작하는 이 곡은 보컬 조제의 가녀린 보이스로 읊조려지다가 후반부 밀려드는 감정의 소용돌이 속으로 듣는 이들을 이끄는 묘한 매력을 지니고 있다. 모노크롬카세트의 전신 ‘필베이’의 싱글앨범에 서브 트랙으로 수록되었던 곡을 리믹싱과 리마스터링을 통해 새로운 감성으로 재해석한 곡으로 두 버전을 비교해서 들어볼 수 있는 좋은 기회이기도 하다. 1월은 언제나 기대와 불안감이 공존하곤 한다. 현재의 시국 만큼이나 겨울의 추위가 더욱 차갑게 느껴지는 요즘이지만 신곡의 제목 ‘비밀의 방’처럼 아직 만나보지 못한 문 너머 그곳에 대한 알 수 없는 기대감을 품고 새 해를 시작해 보는건 어떨까. 앨범 자켓속의 아름답고 신비로운 소녀는 누구인지에 대한 궁금증과 함께 2017년의 첫 곡으로 ‘비밀의 방’을 선택한 모노크롬카세트의 새로운 시작도 기대해보자. 2017년 1월 25일 온라인 발매.
